The German blog HomoepathieWatchblog reported that the response to the Bundestag’s petition to save homeopathy is excellent: the petition was received on February 25th. at 9:46 am the necessary quorum reached with 50,000 co-signatories, as confirmed on the Bundestag website. For this success, the homeopathic community only needed 17 days to collect the necessary votes. Reaching this majority automatically triggers a parliamentary procedure in the Bundestag, including a hearing with representatives of homeopathy.
With the 50,000 votes, the homeopathic community exceeds the quorum established by the legislature for petitions for the Bundestag petitions committee to address the topic of homeopathy. Homeopathy and complementary medicine gain a voice in politics and prevent homeopathy from remaining ignored in the legislative process. With the petition, the action group of homeopathy and anthroposophy doctors as well as patients demands that homeopathy continues to be part of legal health insurance and not be eliminated, as stipulated in a bill from the Federal Minister of Health, Karl Lauterbach.
Thanks to the success of the petition, the topic is included on the agenda of a public meeting of the Petitions Committee. The community worked together and acted quickly, as evidenced by the fact that it took just 17 days, rather than the available four weeks, to collect the 50,000 votes needed for the petition.
